Denver Tango Festival Takes One Step Forward in Cheesman Park

DENVER May 27, 2012 . People traveled from across the country for Denver's tango festival, which hosted a dance Sunday night in Cheesman Park. "You have to come to festivals like this to get a nice variety of people and styles," one dancer said. The gathering ends tonight with one last "milonga" in Boulder.
Colorful heels, skirts and passionate moves filled Cheesman Park's plaza Sunday during a night of tango. Hundreds of advanced tango dancers from across the country spent Memorial Day weekend learning new moves and dancing with new friends during the 12th year of Denver's semiannual tango festival, which hosted Sunday night's dance.

Hundreds of tango enthusiasts travel to Denver for the four-day event. The Tango draws its origins from South America and was made popular in such countries as Argentina and Uruguay.

DENVER May 25, 2009. Tango danced back to its roots at a milonga (party or social gathering) Sunday at the outdoor plaza of Cheesman Park in Denver. The annual dance draws 300 from across the nation. Hundreds of people swiftly skated the marble floor of the plaza in their formal dance shoes as the sun dipped behind the stormy Rocky Mountains.
